[Love] Perfect Love – hand-painted fountain pen
ZAR7,000.00
Perfect Love is the third in the series of spring-themed painted pens that Marian Binder has called her Spring Pen Bouquet. The pen’s name refers to the tulip being the symbol of perfect love, dating back to the Turkish and Persian legend of the love between Farhad and Shirin. There are various versions of this tale … in one she is a princess and he a commoner who is set an impossible task by her father, in order to win her hand, and as he nears completion, the father sends a messenger who convinces Farad that his beloved has died. He throws himself to his death and where his blood lands, red tulips emerge from the soil. Yellow tulips are less … melodramatic … and represent pure, unconditional love.
Marian has an extraordinary eye for detail combined with an artistic flair for portraying flowers in visually striking ways, and this painting is a lovely example of that. She has used a style that is realistic, yet not traditional botanic art, and painted a selection of gorgeous tulip flowers against a Prussian blue background. We have added a similarly deep blue grip section and the overall effect is eye-catching.
Some more background on the process: We created the blank which Marian then painted. Once she had completed her artwork, we coated it in a layer of clear resin so as to allow the ultimate owner to carry and use this art on a daily basis without it getting scratched or damaged. We also added the grip section, then did a final shaping, polishing and buffing. Finally we will tune the nib once the new owner has chosen the nib width they would prefer. The end product is a portable, functional, one-of-a kind work of art.
This particular pen also has a sterling silver cap band and section ring, and a medallion embedded in the cap finial which has our logo in bronze.

The Jabulani model
SPECIFICATIONS
This is a gently curvaceous model, with a girth of 16 mm (0,6”), narrowing to a 10,7 mm (0,4”) grip section. The relatively large size of the model is to allow the artist sufficient space for their artwork, and the artwork is encased in a layer of clear resin to protect it from getting damaged during day-to-day use. Our logo medallion is embedded in the cap finial which is ever-so-slightly rounded, and the barrel finial is ever-so-slightly conical. The cap is a flush-fit and does not post. The Jabulani model usually comes with a hand-made, cap band and section ring in either Argentium silver or bronze, though this may differ depending on what best suits the artwork. Custom hand-crafted roll stops can be added.
