Meet the Artists
Brandon Lodewyk
Brandon is a self-taught artist who specializes in pencil drawings. He is also a natural born storyteller and each of his artworks has layers of symbolism which often reflects his own experiences and spiritual journey.
Lisa Strachan
After qualifying with a National Diploma in Textile Design Lisa has spent the last thirty years exploring the art of botanical illustration. Being more of a creative than an artist she spends her days hand embroidering, doing textile and wallpaper designs as well as her botanical illustration. She focuses on flora and fauna in her immediate surrounds of the Cape West Coast of South Africa.
Val Myburgh
Val, whose career includes having illustrated surgical procedures for medical text books, paints in with such precision that her pens needs to be viewed under a loupe to appreciate small features such a minute lady bug seeing its reflection in a droplet of water. She has a quirky side to her character; for example in Val’s African version of Harlequin and Columbine, he is a balletic warthog and she an insouciant mongoose, posing unmasked and en pointe in her silk tutu.
Hanna Farmer
Hanna has loved drawing since she was little and doodles have been her favourite art form. Through studying graphic design and working as a draftsperson her style became more structured while retaining its whimsical character. Hanna is a prolific artist and when she is zendoodling on to pens she often draws with a pen that is 0,12 mm (0,004 inches) thick.
Zelna le Roux
Zelna is a creative, always-thinking, animal-loving, professional artist and art gallery owner. Her main medium is oils and she has a special affinity for painting horses. Zelna trained as a graphic designer, managed a game farm, and trained horses for many years before settling into her full-time art career.
Kseniia Nel
Kseniia is a versatile artist who has studied in both Ukraine and in Norway where she completed a Masters in Fine Art. Growing up in Ukraine meant that from the age of 14 children are streamed into a particular direction at school. In her case she was recognised as having artistic talent and has studied art ever since, so although she is relatively young she has been creating art for the proverbial 10 000 hours several times over.
Yulia Glas
Yulia is also originally from Ukraine and has been living in South Africa for many years. She runs her own art gallery and is known her eye-catching artworks in a range of media, from acrylic paints to resin to painted pottery to resin to mixed
Carla Nel
Carla is a graphic designer currently based in Cape Town. Her pens are her biggest therapeutic outlet. As a designer she loves that illustrating these pens gives her a push to tap into her creative side, but also the freedom to try new things and to be nudged outside her comfort zone.
